Ela Beach Craft Markets Port Moresby PNG July 2012

I purchased a new lens for my Sony NEX-5N camera in Thailand (55-210) makes it a little  easier to take photos at the markets as I don’t like standing there pretending to be a tourist…. 🙂

I did include a photo of Xaria with her new Bilum (string bag) that we bought from the markets.  Location: a little coffee trip to Duffy’s (our sanity coffee shop) 🙂

  1. Hey bro,

I’m a kiwi living in Brizzy I have been offered a position in Port Moresby and have been getting mixed responses from people. I have read some of your blogs and your famz and you seem to be having a great time.

I just wanted to know a couple of things if you dont mind:

    * Do they have broadband internet? is it any good?
    * Do they have any golf courses?
    * Local/secure gyms?

    Thanks

    Ken

    • Hi Ken,

Broadband is average at best, and expensive…. Certainly nothing like Aussie. For normal surfing – its OK until the bill hits 🙂

The Yachty and the Aviat both have gym’s, both are pretty basic but functional, and quite a few of the compounds have gyms, with some of the bigger ones (Aussie high comm) having squash courts, tennis courts etc.

There is a golf course here, there are lots of golfers, and by all accounts it’s an OK course. We do have a pro tour come through each year, so it has to be better than average… 🙂

Hope that helps. Pretty easy flight from Brissie for a look/see before you commit 🙂

  2. Thanks Aaron,

Yeah I’m still sorting out some details with my contract but a flight over before signing is on the cards.

I’m only a hacker when it comes to golf so that’s all good 🙂

Have you heard of the Kenmore Group/Atlas Steel? If you have do they have a good name?

    Ken

    • The Kenmore Group is a very large company here in PNG, unfortunately I personally don’t know anyone that works there…

Give me a yell if you come up and I’ll organise the paperwork for the Kiwi Club – always need new recruits 😉

      cheers
      Aaron
